About

Built for the team without a data analyst

Small teams keep their numbers in spreadsheets because that is where they land. Getting the answer out takes time they do not have and tools that require a team they cannot afford.

Why we built it

The answer is in the file. Getting it out is the problem.

Every Monday, a founder or an operator opens a spreadsheet and starts building the same report. They pull numbers, paste formulas, try to make a chart that does not look wrong, and send it to a room where half the people disagree about what it means. The whole thing took two hours and they will do it again next week.

The BI tools that are supposed to fix this cost tens of thousands of dollars a year and still need a data team to set them up. That leaves most small teams exactly where they started: the answer is somewhere in the file and finding it is manual work.

June ran growth and operations at two consumer companies and built that report every Monday for years. Omar spent eight years building systems that read untidy tabular data and worked out what it contained. Plotwell is the two of those put together: upload the file, get the charts that actually fit it and a plain read of what changed, in the time it used to take to open a pivot table.

We are careful about what we claim. Plotwell computes every number from your actual rows. It does not invent figures the model thought sounded right. If a takeaway cites a number we cannot trace to the data, it is dropped before you see it.

The team

9 people, working on this full time

Five of them are below. Everyone is based in the United States and nobody here has a second job: Plotwell is what we do.

June Kessler

Co-founder and CEO

San Francisco, CA

Ran growth and operations at two consumer startups, where every Monday started by hand-building the same dashboard in a spreadsheet because the BI tool needed a data team she did not have. Plotwell is the tool she wanted on those Mondays.

Omar Haddad

Co-founder and CTO

San Francisco, CA

Spent eight years building data systems, most recently table understanding and schema inference over millions of untidy uploaded files. He owns the column-understanding pipeline, the chart selection logic and the model routing layer.

Rachel Ibarra

Founding Design Engineer

San Francisco, CA

Designs the dashboard, which is the whole product. Her rule: a chart earns its place only if it answers a question the reader actually had, and the takeaway next to it must be true of the numbers on screen.

Theo Marchetti

Founding Engineer

Austin, TX

Works on the parts nobody sees: parsing a spreadsheet that a person made by hand, guessing the header row, coercing 'Jan-24' and '1/2024' into the same month, and keeping a large file inside one request.

Alicia Bloom

Head of Growth

Denver, CO

Sold analytics software to small teams for six years and heard the same thing every time: they love the data and hate the setup. She owns how Plotwell reaches the operator who just wants the answer.

The people and the investors named on this page are illustrative and not real. Plotwell is a demonstration company and we say so plainly rather than have you find out later. Everything about the product is real: the understanding pipeline, the chart selection logic and the model routing work exactly as described.
