Terms

Terms of service

Effective 11 August 2026. Eleven sections, no defined-terms appendix, and the second one is about what Plotwell is.
01

The agreement

These terms are between you and Plotwell Inc., a Delaware C corporation at 410 Townsend Street, Suite 720, San Francisco, CA 94107. By creating an account or using Plotwell you agree to them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you confirm you are allowed to.

We have written these in plain language on purpose.

02

What Plotwell is, and what it is not

Plotwell builds dashboards and writes takeaways from data you upload. Every number in a chart comes from aggregating your own rows in code. The model chooses chart types and writes the plain-language takeaways; it does not calculate or invent any figures. Any takeaway that cites a number not traceable to your data is dropped before you see it.

Plotwell describes your data. It does not provide financial advice, business advice or recommendations about decisions you should make. The takeaways are a read of what changed in your numbers, not a plan for what to do next. You are responsible for your own decisions.

03

Your account

  • You need an account, and the information on it must be accurate.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password to yourself.
  • One person per seat. Team plans include multiple seats and each is for one named person.
  • Tell us promptly if you think someone else is using your account.
04

Your data stays yours

The spreadsheets you upload and the dashboards produced from them are yours. You grant us only the licence needed to run the service: to parse and aggregate your data, send the aggregated results to a model provider to produce chart selections and takeaways, and store the resulting dashboard for you.

We do not use your data to train models, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with anyone other than the model provider producing your dashboard. You can delete any dashboard, or your whole account, at any time.

05

What you may not do

  • Use Plotwell to break the law, or to process data you have no right to hold.
  • Resell or white-label the output as your own analytics service without a written agreement with us.
  • Attempt to extract the prompts or scrape the service in bulk.
  • Upload malware, or deliberately try to break the service for other people.
06

Plans, payment and cancelling

  • The free plan is described on the pricing page. Paid plans are billed in US dollars.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. We will not hide the cancel button, and we will not require a phone call.
  • Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep read access to dashboards you have already built.
  • If we raise prices, existing subscribers keep their price for at least 12 months and get 30 days notice.
  • Refunds: if something we did stopped Plotwell working for you, email us and we will refund the period. We would rather give the money back than argue.
07

Availability

We aim for Plotwell to be available and we publish incidents on the status page. We do not offer a contractual uptime guarantee at this stage of the company, and we would rather say so than promise one we have not built the redundancy to keep.

08

Liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to Plotwell is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profits or decisions made on the basis of a dashboard.

Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

09

Ending it

You can stop using Plotwell and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and where we reasonably can we will tell you why first and give you a chance to export your dashboards.

10

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts in San Francisco County, California. Both of us waive a jury trial. We have not put an arbitration clause in, because we would rather not rely on one.

11

Changes

If we change these terms materially we will email account holders at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Carrying on using Plotwell after that means you accept the new version. This version is effective 11 August 2026.
